Those are the best times, when you're itching to get everything hooked up, you press power and then the screen comes to life and then you realise you have no idea what the special key presses are to do special things, I recall being completely mystified when I got my Octane, I had my PowerBook at my side looking on the net whilst trying to play with it and figure out what made it tick.

And can be the worst times when you hit the button ....... and nothing happens.  Then the mad scramble really begins on the web to figure out what is wrong.

Sorry for the doom and gloom, but it is cold and rainy outside, and I have no power at home for the umteen friggin time this year.

I am sure yours will work first time.

Haha, and then panic sets in.  Recently I was playing with my cube and took the back off for some reason, maybe to see what was wrong with the spare dead dimension I have.  Anyway when I put it back together I hit power and got a few errors saying that there was a SCSI problem, I did it a few times and then started to panic big time, I thought oh no I fried the SCSI chip.  It turned out to be the fan cable had unplugged the molex from the HD when I took the back off the cube.

But that is nothing to the despair I faced when I plugged a Fujitsu HD out of my 840av into my BeBox, switched it on and saw smoke and a small hole appear on an IC on the HD, thus I though oh oh, guess who just smoked a BeBox logic board.  Imagine my delight when I plugged in the old HD and it booted fine.

Well, after the third time in two years having power out for 5 or more days, I did buy a generator.  The power came back on about 4 hours later this time, so we did not have to use it.

glad to hear. i get involved with disaster planning at times, and its one of those items i think more people should have. of course, if things get bad and you have greedy, less-prepared neighbors, you might have to deal with them at some point now too.

You should have been with me here in Beirut then during the recent bombings, I wanted to buy a generator (enough to run a WAP, PowerBook, Cellphone, small TV, Refrigerator and a couple of lamps) and they wanted 4 grand for it!!!!!

Supply and demand is a bitch sometimes.  Capitalism at its best.
