That picture confused me quite a bit - according to the book, it's a styrofoam model of the Cube + peripherals, not a practical joke played on a former Apple engineer who worked on the Pink OS (or so...) :D

It was a great read. So much NeXT stuff in here and plenty I don't think I've read before.
The exchange between Avie and Steve starting at page 128 is really telling.

Tells you how much rot they had to deal with. In many ways, sadly, I think there is even more rot in apple today.
