Title: These forums don't allow login on Safari

Hi all,

Just wanted to mention something odd I've encountered recently: it seems I can no longer log into this forum in Safari, on my macOS laptop, on my iPad or on my iPhone. Attempting to log in gives a generic error, even before prompting for a username and password.

Anyone else seeing this?

I don't have a Mac to test this on, but I did an online search for SMF forum issues with Safari. I didn't see anything specific to login issues. This is a list of open and closed SMF forum issues related to Safari:

https://github.com/search?q=repo%3ASimpleMachines%2FSMF+safari&type=issues (https://github.com/search?q=repo%3ASimpleMachines%2FSMF+safari&type=issues)

Apple support has a page that mentions some things to try:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204098 (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204098)

Generic error messages are frustrating. Maybe someone else can chime in here with some ideas.

I experienced the same issue trying to log in from my iPhone. I was able to finally circumvent this by going to some thread and log in from there (I think it asks you to log in when trying to reply).

Oh, interesting, that actually worked! I'm replying from my iPhone in Safari now, which I have not been able to do by logging in from the main page. Go figure!

Hope this thread ends up helping someone else,

I use Brave on iOS, and the latest Safari on macOS Big Sur, without issue.

I don't generally use Safari (I'll have to check this for myself on my Intel Mac) - but I DO generally use OmniWeb 2.7 running on a NeXT to read this forum (for all the years nextcomputers.org has been online). I use the HTTPS extension bundle by Juergen Mollenhof, which allows for TLS 1.0 encryption (I'd have to figure out what ciphers it has). In general, for reading forums about a vintage computer, I use a browser running on a computer of that type. irixnet.org & sgi.sh for SGI, for example, have forums to which I can connect using Netscape 4.x or Mozilla 1.x running on my SGI boxes...
However, perhaps due to the move to a new server, this is now sadly broken... I can connect to the initial forum page, which requires only an http connection, but all connections to the actual forums or posts now requires some higher version of TLS.
Is there any way to reconfigure the server to allow use of TLS 1.0?
