If you're not getting email notifications for topics that you follow it's because the forum software has them turned off by default now, so you'll need to enable them in your notification settings if you want them. You can change your notification settings by clicking on your username in the upper left corner of your screen and then selecting "Notifications". Make sure that "Follow topics I create and reply to" is checked. The important setting is directly below that, which is "How frequently to tell me". Choose the drop down menu and select your desired setting. When you're done with your changes choose "Save Settings" at the bottom right of your screen. Please let me know if you have any issues.
Thanks,
Possibly related, I am now logged out every day or every few hours, despite the fact that I choose "forever" as my login setting. Any idea what's going on there?

Hmmm. Which operating system and browser are you using? One thing you can try is to delete the NeXTComputers.org browser cookie, then log in again and see if that helps.
I'm using Safari on a Mac. It's been working for years, but recently I get logged out at least every day. Super weird.
