Left out key point: It's easier to attract engineering talent to locations with good schools and affordable housing. While hardware pays well, it has not kept up with pure software salaries.

TI is still currently using NeXTSTEP in some of their silicon plasma manufacturing facilities in Texas. If it ain't broke don't fix it :)

This could change if Jim Kellers Risc-V startup takes off, it might encourage more people to the industry or more people starting their own startups.

It is all above board lol so I actually helped them come up with an NeXTSTEP Intel hybrid Linux emulation solution but most of the credit goes to the stellar TI sys admin .  One of the factors of the global chip shortage is the aging infrastructure of the legacy NeXTSTEP Intel boxes , they managed to install a company "Ariba" and the process for them being able to have NeXTSTEP Intel Runtimes and support went way south. The NeXT admins moved on I tried to get Apple to help as it made sense to me to have Apple buy Lam research and TI heck Broadcom as well verticle integration then simply port there legacy NeXT 3rd party software to OSX as a lot of the chips are for Apple products. I'm not sure what sftware Apple is using for there current design and future silicon production  but my guess is it is something very similar .  At any rate I'm a legend in my own mind . Here is my Dorothy https://youtu.be/-sQ8LumMgK4?si=izTzRgx-OeRlf2Qy and yes the used hardware guys hooked her up and she still is kicking out Plasma Chips of and they also just took my design and integration as a cookie cutter then cut me out of the loop, oh well all water under the bridge as that endeavor went south for them awhile back.
