My grandfather has an old iMac Core 2 Duo (2007, first aluminum ones), and it runs faster than his late 2019 intel imac (spinning disk - he wanted to save cash).
3GB RAM, 256GB SSD - perfectly fast and responsive for online banking, skype, web browsing, youtube and email.
Lubuntu user here. I had to use Lubuntu on my old 2013?? ASUS S200E laptop with 2GB ram because my modern 2019 Acer Swift 113-p has a broken screen. I've been plauged with errors on my Acer laptop (4GB RAM) and will never buy another one again.
The most annoying thing I find with laptops is that they don't mention if you can upgrade the RAM so you have to spend extra time doing research to see if the model supports RAM and SSD upgrades. The staff gives you weird looks when you're in the shop lifting the laptop to look at the bottom to see if their is a RAM expansion port there, and the sales staff don't really know either (this is at general stores).
