I have been away from Nexts for some time since my Megapixel color flaked out on me about 5 years ago. I just acquired a mono Turbo which renewed my interest. (Still waiting for the monitor.) Which is why I just registered on the forum.
I have an Iyama Visionmaster 17 multisync monitor which I use with several wintel boxes. It has both a 15-pin SVGA socket as well as 5 RGB BNC connectors. It recognises which video system is connected. The connectors are labled R, G/SYNC, B, H/HV, and V whose meaning are obvious. I believe it should work with my color slab. I have a Y-cable and a sound box that I would like to use. To me it would appear that I could use a 13w3 F cable to BNC connectors.
Now my problem is there seem to be contradictory opinions of the pin-outs of the NEXT. Someplace I got this pin-out which seems to be backed up by several other references I found. The other thing is would I also hook up all 5 BNC connectors ?
I see Rob at Black Hole is selling 4 BNC version cable adapters. (Not that I'd try to buy from him).
13W3 NeXT Color
1152x870
63.9kHz, 60Hz
This computer type utilizes the 13W3 video connector to display high resolution graphics. The video output generally operates at 63kHz an is designed to work in conjunction with it's local monitor.
Signal Type: Analog
Pin A1 - Red/Red Ground
Pin A2 - Blue/Blue Ground
Pin A3 - Green/Green Ground
Pin 1 - +12VDC
Pin 2 - Power Switch Cont
Pin 3 - Monitor Clock
Pin 4 - Monitor Out
Pin 5 - Monitor In
Pin 6 - -12 VDC
Pin 7 - Monitor Type 2
Pin 8 - Ground
Pin 9 - Ground
Pin 10 - Ground
A few other sites have the R and B reversed on their Next adaptors.
Would this connection work with my color slab ?
A secondary question is related to my Megapixel monitor. In combing thru the Next stuff I ran across some mention of a dead battery in the computer could have an effect
on the monitor. Since other than it's flakiness the monitor showed no sign of deterioration in picture quality. It would just occasionally not display until it finally stopped. I'm considering trying the battery from the Turbo to test it. Would I lose all necessary set-up parameters in the Turbo if I tried that ?
Thanks
Lawrence.
All you need are a couple of adapters for your "Y" cable, and you can hook the color slabs up to a vga monitor. Check out this link on the site for more info, it is what I used to get my color and turbo color hooked up.

I wondered about the R & B signals being swapped but proved it wasn't true as my NeXT 21" megapixel works fine with my Silicon Graphics Octane. I think whoever wrote that was getting confiused with IBM RS6000 & Intergraph workstations, they have the R & B signals swapped.
Hi Lawrence,
Here's a picture of an original NeXT BNC adapter, part #2063.00. I double-checked the pin-outs with a meter.
A1=Red
A2=Green + Sync
A3=Blue
All grounds are common
It sounds like your monitor supports sync on green so I would expect that a standard 13W3F to BNC adapter with the above pin-outs should work. As far as your NeXT monitor is concerned it may be repairable. There's some good information in
this thread. (

I went to the site and eagerly started to order one. I live in Canada and their cheapest shipping price was $43 ( highest was $68). I passed.
What they give you on sale price, they take back in handling. An adapter that weighs at most about 4 oz. I could ship for less than $10 to Cal.
I"ll do some shopping around. At least I know now a Sun Micro adapter will work.
Thanks anyways,
Lawrence

I've always found
Deep Space Cables (
http://www.deepspacecables.com) to be good, and shipping is cheap as well, at least to UK it is.
Which Sun Micro adapter are you talking about, only the Creator 3d AFAIK outputs SOG, the rest of the Sun range is seperate sync.
Thanks Nitro. It's beginning to look like all I really need is A 1-3 with grounds in order to connect my Iiyama BNC connectors to the Y-cable.
Did the mono sound box have a Y-cable with 19-pin connectors ?

Oops. My brain just turned to mush again.
Luckily I have a line on an original Next adaptor such as Nitro showed. Hope I can get it.
To further muddy the waters and turn my brain from mush into duck soup, I also have a DEC VR 320. It's a color 19" fixed frequency SOG with 3 BNC connectors. It supports 66mhz or 68mhz, the same I believe as the Megapixel. Would the "fixed frequency" aspect disallow this with my color slab, assuming I had the 13w3F to BNC connectors ? Has anyone ever tried this monitor on a NEXT ?
