Hi all,
Is there a list of differences between a NeXT Computer and a NeXTcube? If one were to swap in an 040 motherboard and install a scsi drive, does a Computer essentially become a cube, assuming the psu is the newer 983 model too?
Hello Trixter: The difference is the footprint of the cases ,stations nicknamed Pizza boxes , and the size of the motherboard lengthwise is longer . There are mono stations and color stations; NeXT Cube has a separate board called he NeXT dimension board .For a breakdown of exact technical specs and differences we have all of the original NeXT brochures here :)

Hi Rob, thanks for the answer. I was just wondering if there was a difference between the first iteration of the cube (the "NeXT Computer") and the second iteration (the NeXTcube") other than the motherboard and addition of the scsi hdd.
The main differences 68030 25Mhz to 68040 25Mhz or 33Mhz processor (Turbo)
Yes you are correct:)
Addition of
R45 Ethernet Connector
Floppy Connector, internal floppy drive and combo floppy, optical faceplate on some Cubes
no optical drive connector on Turbo boards
Different embossing Computer vs Cube
Different Ram 30 pin 64Mb max = 4mb * 16 slots
to 72 pin 32Mb * 4 = 128Mb Max on Turbo motherboards
Different power supply models 152 to 983
