Hello NeXT Computers community,
Searching through the forums I couldn't find information on this so thought I'd start a topic.
I have a 68030 NeXTCube motherboard that is working well but is missing the BIOS EEPROM.
This is likely a challenge that others have had with various NeXT hardware
I was wondering if anyone has successfully reproduced BIOS for NeXT computers and which EEPORM and programmer can be purchased today to do so.
The boot ROM image can be found on various sites, e.g. here (
https://www.macintoshrepository.org/52628-next-hardware-roms).
The 68030 firmware uses 64 kB, so a 27C512 EPROM is big enough. However, the 27C512 only has 28 pins instead of the 32 pins of larger (from 128 kB) EPROMs, so you have to take care when inserting the ROM to leave the correct four pins free (and check the orientation of the chip).
Here's a picture of a 28 pin EPROM in a 68030 cube board (

If you happen to live near Germany, I can burn an EPROM for you. A standard cheap TL866 eprommer can burn the chip. A 28C512 EEPROM (electrically erasable) should also work, but I haven't tested that.
Thank you
@cuby Just sent you a PM!
I also made a stack of them for Rob a while ago if you're in the US.
