Hi, this is my first post here.
I've been experimenting with hooking up a gotek to my next cube and been working to reverse engineer the floppy pinout so I can adapt it. I'm guessing there isn't much different between a standard floppy and this one except the power on the ribbon cable, and the 2.88 density sense pin... but maybe there are others. Anyway, I couldn't seem to find anywhere this is documented and wondered if anyone here knows?
Here's what I've gathered so far:
Pin Signal Description Pin Signal Description
1 ? Is this used? 2 DENSEL Density Select 1=Low/0=High
3 ? Is this used? 4 RSVD Is this used?
5 """+5V""" 6 RSVD Is this used?
7 """+5V""" 8 INDEX# Index
9 """+5V""" 10 MOTEA# Motor A Enable
11 """+5V""" 12 DRVSB Drive Select B
13 GND 14 DRVSA Drive Select A
15 GND 16 MOTEB# Motor B Enable
17 ? Is this used? 18 DIR# Direction Select
19 GND 20 STEP# Head Step
21 GND 22 WDATA Write Data
23 GND 24 WGATE# Floppy Write Enable
25 GND 26 TRK0# Track 0
27 ? Is this used? 28 WPT# Write Protect
29 GND 30 RDATA Read Data
31 GND 32 HDSEL#/SIDE Head Select / Side select
33 GND 34 DSKCHG# Disk Change

Awesome! Just what I needed, thanks very much!!
There's a couple of pins that I can't seem to find specific details on, and hoping someone here knows. I've attached the updated mapping, and wondering specifically about the following pins:
17 Media Type 1 Assuming the values of these signals define what type of disk is in the drive
21 Media Type 0 720, 1.44, 2.88 or 1.2? I've found info for PS/2 drives, but guessing this isn't the same
2 Density Select 1 Are these pins used to allow the computer to tell the drive which density to use?
6 Density Select 0 What values are associated with the various density?
4 - Device type id - is this like 0 for 1.44 drive and 1 for 2.88?
Did you make any progress on this peclark? I have a few Goteks and having them work with the NeXT hardware would be really helpful.
