I'm curious if anyone has tried to overclock an 030 cube. I've had a 50MHz 68030 CPU and an 030 socket sitting on a shelf for years now. Is 50MHz too much of a stretch for the 030 motherboard? Would it require a clock doubler circuit like the 040?

I never heard of that on NeXT. I suspect it may have been done on the mac, however.

The problem with the next is that all the system components (SCSI, Memory, video, etc) run from the same crystal. The turbo system ASICs can probably handle the higher frequencies better than the older ceramics on the 030 system. This is why the clock doubler circuit was done on the "official" upgrades. That localizes the frequency change to just the CPU. If someone designed a doubler for the 030 I'd love to see how it would perform at 50mz vs an 040. The other annoyance of course is that you need to desolder the 030 to put a socket. They do not come out easy.

You're right, but the pyro for 040 system handle only cpu ?
