I think I'm with the PC Mag commenters on this one—the staff should've known better than to make a list of top twenty influential machines, and then arbitrarily limit it to computers they felt belonged in their pages. Think of all the Sun, SGI, and MicroVAXes they could've included!

Well, they kind of stated they were looking at the computers that 'affected us' and 'wouldn't be covering 8 bit computers'. They covered what they did between their pages so to be fair they did caveat early on.
I agree with you, that certain 8 bits had more affect to the people than many of these computers but.....they didn't cover them or they were 8-bit or they just had a different perspective......and you're right, they could have included more but it's their point of view on a very controversial topic and so I guess it is what it is. Also they aren't dealing with hobbyists it would seem so business machines mainly. I grew up in the IT field from 1981 on and have seen most of those machines they covered in some form or other and they wouldn't necessarily have been on my list but again, it's arbitrary to a person's perspective.
Anyway I do agree with you from that last point of arbitrariness. Many others could be included but only 20 were, not my 20 either.
