Might not be new to you, but new to me, Google now indexes and displays patent filings. Here is a search for ones assigned to NeXT.
http://www.google.com/patents?lr=&q=inassignee%3A%22NeXT+Inc.%22&btnG=Search+Patentshttp://www.google.com/patents?lr=&q=inassignee%3A%22NeXT+Computers%22&btnG=Search+PatentsAnd Apple as well
http://www.google.com/patents?lr=&q=inassignee%3A%22Apple+Computer%2C+Inc.%22&btnG=Search+PatentsMuch nicer to use than the USPTO site, and you can still see their version with just a click on the included link.
Have fun with this, I know I am :)

Well I've got a search for you:
http://www.google.com/patents?num=100&q=inassignee%3ANeXT+inassignee%3ASoftware+inassignee%3AInc&btnG=Search+Patents&as_drrb_ap=q&as_minm_ap=1&as_miny_ap=1985&as_maxm_ap=1&as_maxy_ap=2000That's "NeXT Software, Inc.", and they're still getting patents issued as late as 2004. This does appear to be the same NeXT Software, Inc. (listed as being in Redwood), however, these are continuations of patent applications from the early-mid 90s.
Interesting that work is still being done on these...
