This is, uh, interesting, but the floppy disk (?) in the lower optical bay is anachronism, as is the dot-matrix print-out, I think.

True, but weirdly it was a more 'modern' version of the cube. When the NeXTstations came out later they had 2.88MB floppy drives, and there was an option to get an upgraded NeXT cube with the floppy option. Also, there was software from 3rd parties that let you use dot matrix printers. It was a "throw back" even then. It wasn't to give people low cost options so much as there were some vertical markets that required printing to dot matrix printers.
