I'm a fairly active member at other vintage computing forums (VCF, 68kmla, TinkerDifferent, etc) and recently added my first NeXT hardware to my collection (NeXTCube, MegaPixel display, Laser Printer, external CD-ROM, sound box, pre-ADB kbd/mouse, and lots of media/software). I grew up in the 90s using mostly Apple 2's and then Macs and DOS/Windows PCs. NeXT computers were always kind of mythical to me, and I never actually got hands-on with one back then, so I'm super excited to have that opportunity now. My day job involves some iOS/MacOS software development, and it's cool to still see things in the codebase prefixed with "NS" to this day.
My black hardware will need some TLC, though the cube, monitor, and peripherals all work as they sit. I've restored/repaired dozens of other vintage computers to working order, and have a sizable collection of Apple 2s, 68k/PPC Macs, Osbornes, and other platforms, so I feel I'm up to the task. I already spotted some leaking capacitors in a few components, though the only possible trace damage I've noticed so far is in the CD-ROM. I'll probably just re-cap everything as a preventative measure. Anyways, here she is booted into OpenStep 4.2 off of a BlueSCSI shortly after I got her home:
PS: I am interested in a NeXTdimension board for this system if anyone has one they'd part with :)
