I have 2 NS1100's that I am working on. I do not have any Next monitor at all.
I have created a NeXT serial cable per:

I have tried multiple flavors of null, cisco, rollover etc. I do this all the time on my Sun's with this same laptop and serial dongle - so I'm pretty sure I don't have an issue there.
I am able to hotwire the machine, and at the front edge of the MB there is a small red LED that comes on, goes off, comes on, and goes off one more time. After this - I can feel the CPU heatsink and PSU are slightly warm.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that the PROM settings can disable the serial on A in this scenario ? If that's true - then will I really need a monitor and keyboard to get this going ?

Unfortunately the serial console is not enabled by default.
