Title: NeXT THIRD-PARTY PRODUCTS
Post by: pTeK on December 10, 2024, 11:58:59 AM
Hi.

I have a CD NeXT, THIRD-PARTY PRODUCTS, Winter 1995.

The CD contains demonstration versions of third-party products for use with NS3.3. Did NeXT release any other CDs? i.e Sprint 1996, Summer 1996?

Thanks.

EDIT: Here is the link to download it: https://archive.org/details/ne-xt-3rd-party-1995-winter/ (https://archive.org/details/ne-xt-3rd-party-1995-winter/)

Would that be a potential candidate to replace the sadly corrupt ISO image available at  https://fsck.technology/software/NeXT/NeXTSTEP%20Applications/NeXT%203rd%20Party%20Products%201995%20NeXTSTEP%20%28Potentially%20Corrupt%29/ (https://fsck.technology/software/NeXT/NeXTSTEP%20Applications/NeXT%203rd%20Party%20Products%201995%20NeXTSTEP%20%28Potentially%20Corrupt%29/)?
Any plans to upload a copy of yours to archive.org?

Yes I am planning to upload to archive.org. Will be my first upload there  :). Will post back here when it was done. I was meaning to upload it once I got my RPi up and running with a torrent util so that I could use my bandwidth to seed some of the archive.org NeXT stuff. I need to update to the latest release on debian as my one is a few years old by now :/.

The 2016 date is from the last lubuntu image that has X-11 support as my Dell laptop battery is F**ked.

This has now been uploaded to archive.org and I have edited the first post to contain the following link https://archive.org/details/ne-xt-3rd-party-1995-winter/ (https://archive.org/details/ne-xt-3rd-party-1995-winter/) Unfortunately I still haven't updated my RPi so I'm not seeding it at the moment  :(

Thank you so much!

May i suggest to modify the title's "3rd Party demonstration products" to "third-party products" in order to exactly match the actual name of the CD? It would be very much better for people searching this ISO image to not have to guess creative search terms just because the item in question is not using the precise wording of the product. The search function of archive.org is not helping much either if the search terms do not properly match.

It's always really awesome whenever software is saved—even if it's mostly demos of stuff already extant elsewhere. Great job, pTeK!

EDIT: One thing that immediately jumps out at me is that the archive.org posting lists 1995-01-01 as the date, but the disc itself has a copyright of 1994. Digging around on the disc, it seems the last modified date for any file on the disc was 1994-11-21. Maybe use that date instead?

Done 8). I was going to upload your screenshot as the first picture instead of the CDs.

Yeah it will be faster, I just need to get if my @$$ and get the PI set up for NFS and seeding.

Actually i meant to modify the subject title on archive.org/details/ne-xt-3rd-party-1995-winter (https://archive.org/details/ne-xt-3rd-party-1995-winter/), but it still says "NeXT 3rd Party demonstration products released 1995 Winter". The idea was to make the public search on archive.org more straightforward for anybody without any guessing.

And yes, please feel free to use that screenshot if you like to.

Thanks again!

I tried updating it twice yesterday and once again now in both times after updating it it's taken me to a blank page.

Very strange. No idea what browser you are using, but i'd simply try again with other browsers until i'd succeed.  ;D
But then again, maybe that's too much of a hassle to lose any time with.

This has finally been updated, had to use Brave browser today. Did not try the latest Firefox version first before I tried Brave to update attributes.
