I was wondering if NeXT ever manufactured an external HD enclosure? Wanting to add some external storage to my Cube and want to know if I should just paint an enclosure myself, or search for a NeXT logo'd one.

Yes - they did make one. It was labeled [on the bottom]: "NeXT RHD" and it was the most awesome external hard drive case EVER made [!!!] - both in it's design and it's construction.
There used to be a picture up [somewhere] - but I forgot where it is now.
Finding one is quite another story! :(

I've only seen one sell on ebay and it didn't go cheap.
Personally, I painted some enclosures and they look nice.
Here's a picture that I found in my archives of the NeXT RHD:

Sorry that it's a rear shot. I remember the Ebay auction that Blackcube mentioned. Somewhere I saved the pics from that auction but I wasn't able to find them tonight after an extensive search.
can anyone remember the eBay-price of this beauty?
Must .... Have ........... :D
That looks like an old Storecase removable caddy, placed in some sort of larger enclosure. A past company I worked at had a large 6 bay SCSI external raid array that had pull out caddies like that. I remember the keylock and the "number" above it, with the cooling slots on the front. Here are some links to a later version, but it looks pretty much the same design. I wonder if the enclosure was custom made for them, or did they just reuse some existing case in black.

Now to find a suitable 5 1/4 bay enclosure.

It was sold for about $450.00 US to a person in Japan.
It WAS mine - but at the time, I didn't realize that it may have been the only one in all of the world!
I still think [even now] that there are more of them some where. As you can see ... it's not a 'prototype'. It has a serial number. As far as I know - NOBODY seems to have ever seen one before!
I confess ... I dream of finding a few boxes of them and also a couple of cases of Dimension boards - every night!
I bought it from an ex-NeXT employee for $40.00 but he also gave me a padded bag that carried a Cube around for demo's etc. [The bag was solid black, with no logo]. He even delivered these items to me. As he was leaving, his old business card fell out of the bag - and I picked it up, intending to keep it, but he saw me, and asked for it back. He was a senior vice president of some division [education? I think?] - but I forgot his name.

Maybe a lot of companies have trowed ther "old" SCSI hardware to the bin, including cases and no one have seen the NeXT brand.
Anyway a fine piece of hardware, but i'm not shure if the price for us "stressless" NeXT enthusiasts isn't too high. Collecting NeXT itmes is to dig out cheap prices and bargains and not to purchase the blue mauritius.
When NeXT had the going out of the hardware auction, there were a lot of these cases. I got a group them, but they are long gone.
I ended up scrapping a lot of them.
