I recently bought Design Forward from Hartmund Esslinger on ebay which covers some stories from his days with Steve and NeXT.
I have two questions:
No. 1 , one of the images shows the very unsual design attached below for the NeXT STATION 1988. Does any of you know more about the story behind it?
No. 2 , In the book Esslinger also notes: "
Steve already had asked a London-based design firm to do a study, but their concept of designing the NeXT machine as a huge human head was a bit bizarre." Does any of you know who the London based firm was and are there images of the "huge human head " ?
Looks like a "Cube" with a built-in display, kind of a cross between a Cube and an iMac.

There would be so few of these left if they went that route 😀, but I also don't hate it.
Hi
@domstepan , I have never seen nor heart of such machines.

Kinda blah to me...
Seems like this design was eventually realized in the iMac. Very successful.
I wrote to Esslinger on LinkedIn... no reply yet
That book is very hard to find, and very expensive. It doesn't have much NeXT content, but quite a lot of interesting stories about Steve Jobs.
