Title: Add a 2'nd SCSI drive
Post by: sjmxyz123 on December 26, 2006, 03:47:30 PM
I am a very new guy to NextSTEP 3.3 (Whitebox).  I have an IBM SCSI harddrive DNES-309170 in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.  I am stunned by the drive life (going on 7 years!).  I need to add a 2'nd SCSI drive into the HP-Kayak.  The drive is an IBM DDRS-39130, and the SCSI card 'sees' the drive when it is the only one in the chain, but the drive (imaged from my original drive) won't boot.  I have learned from this site how to clone a drive.  I could use some pointers on getting a 2'nd drive added first, before I can clone the original drive.  I have remembered to unterminate the additional drive, and position it on the cable correctly.  My currently working drive boots up, but I can't see the new drive.

Any directions you can give someone new to NeXT would be greatly appreciated right now.

Thanks,

Since i have running both drives on different black NeXT equipment i think it could only to do with your SCSI setup. On NeXTs it will boot from the lowest ID, i have no clue how your controller will work.

Thanks, you are corrrect - just my SCSI ID's were off.  Maybe you can answer a 2'nd question for me:  will NeXTSTEP 3.3 boot off of an IDE drive, once I get the OS transferred?

I'm only qorking with black SCSI hardware and using the
- scsimodes -> disktab
- disk -i
- dump/restore
thing.
