I thought I'd start a thread for 3D printer files for NeXT hardware.
As original hardware is limited and disappearing, I figure it would be great to have a repository of 3D printer files to print some NeXT hardware.
New printers print so many cool materials, even soft foam like rubber. We could easily print things like the gasket for the original mouse. The original mouse and the ADB mouse. Heck the original keyboard and ADB keyboard. A cube/slab case. Brackets inside the computer. Soundbox. Printer pars. The never released RISC based machine case. Etc. Etc.
I can see having at least 3 types of 3D files people would share.
1. Original - An identical to the original 3D file
2. Modified - A modified to original 3D file for things like putting intel mother boards in original looking hardware. For example, a cube that can fit a floppy, a CD, a magneto optical drive, and have a spot for BlueSCSI but otherwise looks original (something I always dreamed of back in the day to have all the different media in one box).
3. New - Some cool new NeXT inspired thing.
Anyway, hoping lots of folks have made some cool 3D printer stuff. Maybe we can get some original CAD files or do some 3D scans of original hardware pieces to add to the collective history.
I know that Rob purchased a device to do 3D scans. He mentioned it on his YouTube channel. He's been doing a ton of 3D printing lately.

That's great. I should be getting my first 3d printer soon so will happy to kick in with some testing. I wonder if there are any ex-NeXTers around and know if there were any CAD files around for any of the hardware. If so, maybe that is shareable as some historic computer archeology.
Looks like
@Rob Blessin Black Hole and I bought the same 3D printer, the Bambu H2D (

Hi zombie, some time ago I had the Soundbox rebuilt in 3D, to insert the original NeXT sound card. It has the same dimensions as the original one, and under the cover you can also insert the original speaker. I sent the STL files to Rob, maybe he uploaded them here in the forum (I probably still have them in the archive, if you need them)
That's fantastic. Let's hope Rob see's this and gives us a pointer to where it's stored. Maybe we can start a 3D repository folder structure with all the other NeXT files he's keeping going, or perhaps we can just store the files here as posts?
@Nitro , do ou know, can we just upload ZIP files here in the threads? I suspect small ones should work, no?

Yes, you can attach ZIP files to your post, up to ~8MB per post. If you're using the Quick Reply editor you can select the Preview button to get the full editor that allows you to attach files.

@krazycat was your Soundbox 3d file smaller than 8MB? If so, could you upload a ZIP of it here and be our first file! :D
Also, I just got my 3D printer yesterday. I suspect it might take me a week to set it up and get it running, but I could try to print it! :D

Here is the kit: one file for the base, one file for the lid. It was printed in PLA, with the front face of the lid and the side with the connector holes facing the base of the 3D printer. This way I got a smooth finish.
Hurray, thanks so much!
Thank you
@krazycat , this is very cool.
Just noticed a few other threads with 3D printed files for NeXT stuff and thought I would link to them:
