Title: OpenStep on Modern 386/486 Clone

It looks like I can't delete this. But after looking a little closer, it looks like NextStep required a 486 and I can't actually find any of these little systems that do a 486. They are all 386 systems. So this is probably a no-go.

Has anyone tried to get OpenStep running on a device like this? These seem kind of cool, small, and all new parts. I thought it would be worth trying. But I know how picky OpenStep is with drivers.

Hmm. New gadgets like this come out all the time—two years ago LGR covered an 8088 and a 386 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bODiZ5bP84), so that's a surprising amount of stagnation. You might want to consider emulation; it is very possible that the cheapest, viable teensy portable solution at present would be something overspecced running an emulator; say, a used Android phone with 86box on it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=P70tXU-ghhM&t=0s), which is comfortable running OPENSTEP 4.2 and NEXTSTEP 3.3 (https://www.reddit.com/r/86box/comments/1fui4wg/install_nextstep_33_and_openstep_42_on_86box/). Natively you could also look at old netbooks from the late 2000s; it would probably be about the same driver compatibility crap-shoot, but there's a lot more to pick from, and no one is exactly burning cash to grab them off eBay since they're too new (and limited) for 90s kids to get their beige box fix.

Haha, I was thinking the same thing with Netbooks.

This one has a 386SX, NeXTstep needs at least a 486 CPU to run.
