Title: Using generic PSUs... ?
Post by: helf on February 27, 2007, 05:23:53 PM
Anyone ever rigged up a standard ATX PSU for use with a NeXT? People have done it with c64s, Amigas, Ataris etc etc...

I've not done much hardware mucking about; How hard would this be to do? I'm assuming I'd probably have to cut up the cables off a normal NeXT PSU to get at the connectors and what not. But other than that, I've not looked into it much yet.

Reason I'm asking is a secret... Kenjay knows though ;)

I'll probably be needing to use a ~400watt PSU (give or take a few watts, I havent checked power usages.) in a short amount of time.

There's a description how to attach a standard AT (not ATX) power supply to a NeXTstation at http://www.lrz-muenchen.de/~heller/NeXT/power_supply_subst.html.

For an ATX power supply, the additional circuit described to switch the PS on/off should not be required.

I suppose the Cube power connector is completely different, though...

Now you cant just drop a statement like that and not expect 20,000 questions.

Care to share with the class?  :D  :D  :D
