Title: WTB: Apple RGB monitor for IIgs system
Post by: nextchef on April 01, 2007, 08:29:57 AM
Just wondering if anyone in here might have the proper monitor for an apple IIgs that they would be willing to part with.  The ones I have seen on ebay lately have been whole systems, and I currently have 4 IIgs "slabs" so I would rather not get another just to get a monitor.

PM me if anyone can help, and what you might want for it.

Thanks,

Chef

Does it have to be an Apple-branded RGB monitor? A variety of RGB monitors will work with the ][GS- I've tested a Commodore 1080 and XRGB-2+ with good results.

For this one yes, it needs to be the proper Apple monitor.

One just popped up on ebay the other day, but it may be for more than the budget for this project allows.

Yea, and it has gone over the amount I am willing to spend on it right now.  This is a low priority item on my acquisition list at the moment, and I was just hoping that someone had one in the corner somewhere that they just wanted "to get rid of".

Apple II gear used to be the bulk of my collection and I had a couple gs's. I no longer collect A2 stuff. It became hairy to keep it all intact while relocating every few months like I was at the time.

Good luck.

I got a pretty complete IIgs system here. It's also got a 20 meg vulcan drive.
Sorry, I exchange hardware like this for black hardware,  :)

Are you running GS/OS? That's a lot of fun to play with... My old gs had 4MB RAM and a 20MB hd connected to the high speed SCSI card. I bought the whole thing for 5 bucks at a garage sale.

Alas...the only A2 gear I have now is my Woz edition closet queen. Kinda just sits around the house in it's bubble wrap not doin a whole hell of a lot. Maybe someday I'll add on to it... I doubt it tho. NeXT is my obsession these days. I guess it's true when they say, "Once you go black..."

The Weird Stuff Wharehouse in SJ, CA has everything you guys are looking for.  Cheap too!! Old SGI, SUN and Apple stuff to the rafters.

Even their G4 towers are 500mhz complete w ram, an OS (10.4) are like $169... Even though u live in BC, you would find it worth your while to visit there.

So to prove to you im not a complete jerk, how would you lie an unscrached, pristine unmodified powerbook 100?.... it boots and has a system and you can even make B&W startup screens... it even has photoshop 1.0 installed
Try and use it for anything... i dare you!.... No really im serious... if youve ever tried to USE this thing for anything more than word processing you'd be surprised. how useless it is. but i will send to you for the cost of shipping.

Living in the silicon Valley Area, technology is very cheap here and we dont have a use sometimes for even the latest technology.  I go into that store and HP rambus dual processor workstations that were PIII- 733-900mhz are coming in by the truck load... old SGI indy boxes in piles and heaps. You couldent swing a dead cat and not knock over a pile of 25 sparcstations.  Piles and Piles of Old SW and Manuals... you guys would be in tech heaven..... or hell depending on where you look at it.

My buddy and i used to joke... its the place old computers go to die

Man, I could get into some serious trouble in a place like that.  :D

And the next question would be, do they have any NeXT hardware?

If it isnt obvious the free powerbook was directed to pentium....

umm im there and trucks come in w all kinds of old crap all the time.

I didnt see any cubes there but i have seen mono monitors and printers.

cant say what exists there anymore.  Im going again in march as i get paid monthly.. ill let u guys know then ill also look fo GS stuff.

I could have sworn the apple 12" rgb monitor worked with the IIgs

the little one, the one without 640x480 resolution

That sounds about right to me.  As far as I know, the correct model number for the IIgs rgb monitor is A2M6014.

I was always told that mac monitors were not compatible at all with the IIgs's RGB port. It's a pin thing.

Weirdstuff is a place of dreams for me.I would save up big time before I were to go there but alas I am above the 49'th parallel and too far away (at the moment) to go down there and bask in the flourecent lamps that light the aisles.
My father and sister went to LA in 2003 but we have not returned since then.

I have seen the odd PB 100 come through my neck o the woods but never anything mentioning such an old copy of photoshop but it sounds like it would be fun to use on my IIfx (well, I havn't bought it fully yet) or even my SE.

On a side note, one of my mom's friends has a relative that lives down there, It's Bruce Damer, owner of the Digibarn.

I'm not too far from Weirdstuff, but I don't have so much time right now. Once I have some time, I'll try to help out.
