I'm finally biting the bullet and selling off my insane NeXT collection. While its some of the most geektastic stuff I've ever owned, I'm just not really playing around with it any more and its gathering dust, which is a crying shame. I'm sure there's someone here who'll appreciate it more!
I'll be updating this thread with pictures, more detailed specifications, and possibly additional stuff as I pull everything out of storage! Feel free to ask questions.
The Goods:#1: NeXT Cube, Model N1000, Part 23.00Specs:
Motorola 68040 Processor, 25MHz (Not the slower original 68030)
16MB Ram (Upgraded from stock 8MB)
400MB SCSI Hard Drive
256MB NeXT Optical Drive
N4004A Sound Breakout Box
Original NeXT Non-ADB Keyboard/Mouse
N4000A NeXT MegaPixel 17" Monitor
Running NeXTstep 3.3
This cube is in as good a condition as I've EVER seen one, with only very slight scuffing/scratches on the edges. Absolutely gorgeous. Its hard enough to find 040 Cubes, but one in this kind of shape is amazing. This will make any true geek drool with envy!
#2: NeXTstation Turbo Color Slab N1200Specs:
33MHz Motorola 68040 CPU
33 Mhz Motorola 56001 Digital Signal Processor
64MB RAM (Upgradable to 128 MB)
2.88 MB 3.5" Floppy
Seagate ST31055N 1.06GB 3.5-inch Internal SCSI Hard Drive
N4004A Sound Breakout Box
NeXT branded ADB Keyboard/Mouse w. logos
N4006 17"
Color Megapixel Display
Another extremely hard to find piece of NeXT hardware, the N1200 NeXTstation Color Turbo is the fastest and last of the NeXT workstation hardware lineup. There's nothing better you can buy for running NeXTstep/Openstep on the hardware it was designed for. Like the Cube, this is also in amazing condition and looks great. The only problem is some scuffing on the sound box, for some reason they scratch really easily.

#3: Accessories/SoftwareThese are the real jewels of my collection. You'll occasionally see NeXT hardware around, but hardly ever with software kits and all!
Two NeXT N4000 400Dpi B&W Laser Printers (What can I say, they just plain look cool. Paper tray included)
External SCSI CD-ROM Drive
External SCSI 4.2GB Hard Drive
External 2.88MB Floppy Drive (Nice for the Cube!)
(All three are not NeXT branded, but obviously made for NeXT hardware . . . . they match the color scheme and styling perfectly!)

NeXTstep 3.3 on CD, for both Intel and NeXT computers
NeXTstep 3.3 Developer's Kit
NeXTstep/OpenStep Volume 2 "Peanuts Archive", with Update CD
(Winter 1996 FTP Archive, 5 CDs total)
Big Green CDs:
Big Green Net 1 Internet/LAN, Web, GNU, and X11
Big Green Library 2 References and Misc
Big Green Library 3 News, Lit, and Docs
Big Green CD 5, Apps and Source Code)
(All Public Domain and Shareware Software)

And the best part of all, a big sheet of NeXT Logo Stickers to put on your car/etc! That's right, Jobs distributed stickers with hardware LONG before the advent of the iPod. The sticker sheet even has a little protractor to show what angle to put the stickers at.
I'm tentatively pricing the whole lot at $950, shipped. That includes
professional foam-in-place packaging from Navis (I DON'T want any of this gorgeous hardware damaged in shipping!) and shipping via DHL Ground within the cont US. I can ship to Canada if needed but it will cost a significant amount more . . . . this stuff is heavy.
I'll consider selling things separately if there's enough demand. If my price doesn't sound right feel free to make me an offer via PM or AIM (just don't lowball too badly, heh). Trade offers are welcome as well.
if u do want to seperate things up let me know. i would be interested in the external next cd drive at least possibly more. ive got a tone of mac stuff i could trade ya as well
I'll separate out systems/etc, but I'd rather not part out individual software packages or accessories unless the rest is spoken for.
IE if I sold just the cdrom drive then the system would come with a stack of software on CD and no way to use it. Ditto with people who've asked me via e-mail to sell just a NeXT keyboard or mouse.

yeah i understand what u mean. its just all i really need is a next cd drive. i already have 4 next machines and software
I am interested to buy just a software
Feel free to post or PM me an offer on it.
So far I have PM offers of $700 for everything, $400 for just the Cube system, and $100 for the software.
if anything i would be interested in the just the cube +keyboard/mouse. i dont need the monitor
Added some pics of the software and accessories.
I'm interested in the external hdd, floppy drive and the big green cd set.
I'll private message you.
*edit*
you just HAD to list all this when I'm hurting for money ;P
*edit 2*
sorry, just noticed what you said about parting stuff out...
I cannot afford much though, I am still interested in the external HDD and floppy drive... I'll just wait and see I guess.
yeah the cd drive, external hd and floppy drive would be nice to have.
Quote from: "nextchef"Looks like its all up on ebay now.

Guess nobody here got close enough to the $900 that the seller was looking for.
Will be interesting to see if they get that price on ebay.
Chef
It seemed like people here were only really interested in the software and a few accessories, and it would be silly to part it out like that. :?
If I get a good offer I'd cancel the eBay auction, but it just doesn't seem likely at this point.

Larger lots like this one can be problematic to sell, unless you find the right person, and I agree that parting it all out can be a pain. Someone in here bought a large lot of next stuff similar to this a few months ago that came out of some add agency if I remember correctly.
NeXT stuff seems to be hot right now, so you may get a few takers.

well good luck with the sale, you have some nice stuff. i would buy it all if i had the money and if i didnt already have 4 next machines
Evil,
I know you've considered this, but there's a chance you could get your asking price if you thoughtfully parted it out. I know breaking up a well cared for collection really sucks but acquiring an entire instant collection can be a hardship unto itself.
Perhaps separating the collection into 2 or 3 demi-groups with a good mix of the sought after stuff and items you know will end up sitting around unsold. For example, to get the software...you gotta buy one of the monitors...or something along those lines...Kinda sucks but what can you do after the sought after items are gone and nobody wants to pay shipping on CRT's or other heavy items.
I get the impression that people here are already well on their way with usable NeXT hardware. It's understandable that the accessories and software would be sought more after.
Good luck with your sale!

I always see these more complete kits as a great starting point for anyone who wants to enter the NeXT world for the first time.
On the other hand, these lots osually make their way to wealthy collectors who buy them, check them off the list and let them sit and collect dust until the end of time, only being turned on once a year to show other friends that it really works.
I still regret that cube I missed last year at around this time. Stupid in-tank fuel pump.
Well, the eBay sale is fallen through. We've been arguing over shipping for weeks now (he's in Japan, and apparently didn't realize how expensive shipping this stuff there would be), and I finally said screw it and refunded him.
So its all still available!
are you going to part it out now? I know I want some of it pretty badly :P And we will all love you if you do decide to part it out :]
I don't mind parting out, as long as it all gets spoken for!
Feel free to make me an offer on individual pieces.
I'm sure it will all get spoken for within the next 2 weeks. Probably sooner! :) I just wish i had more money to spare at the moment! :P
Well I've had offers so far on the external CD/HDD/Floppy, and on the Big Green CDs.
I'll need to get reasonable offers on both the Turbo Color slab and Cube systems before I part everything out, but if so I will!

That sucks to hear evil, because it's a nice setup...
It's strange though, this tomotomo guy (account says US, not Japan) will pay the exhorbitant amount of $350 for an old P3 notebook (
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170080329947), but can't pay for having those NeXT's shipped over there? How much was weight and shipping?
^Heh, that's an IBM Transnote . . . . . they're very rare, and it seems like he's a collector of vintage hardware. It was actually a pretty fair price.
He wanted me to ship via USPS International, which is the cheapest (like $350 total). It took a few days to get packed (since I had it foam in placed), and despite me telling him that up front he got antsy and filed a Paypal dispute, saying he would lift it after I shipped. This was only two days after he paid! I talked to PayPal, who told me that I should NOT ship USPS, because then if he didn't lift the dispute I wouldn't have tracking to prove he'd gotten it. It was a chance I wasn't willing to take, and he refused to pay the extra money to ship with UPS (which offers delivery confirmation, as PayPal asks). Stalemate, so the deal fell through.
Anyways, I've gotten an offer for the NeXTstep media. If I get any fair offers on the 040 Cube and Turbo Color I'll go ahead and part everything out!

Oh, oops :) I didn't bother looking at the full title I guess, went straight to the internals :D
I've heard of the "dispute" method to make the seller "more honest", but I've never used it myself. Not everyone needs it. Not sure about you, didn't look at your feedback, but you sound alright :)
As for USPS, I don't see why you couldn't ship with USPS and tracking/delivery confirmation. They do offer it. It's only 1-2$ extra per package, isn't it?
As for UPS, yes, it's included and also up to $100 coverage. Perhaps you meant for the extra insurance?
Anyways, his loss :)
USPS only does delivery confirmation for domestic, not international. The guy I talked to at PayPal (he said he was a manager, I asked for a supervisor when the first person I got couldn't answer my questions) told me NOT to do it, that I would definitely lose my money if I did and he left the dispute open.
Oh, well, I think people here will appreciate it more anyways. :D
I would throw $300 at him right now but that would barely cover shipping.

Hmmm.. perhaps I was thinking certified. It's funny though, because when I did Global Express Mail with USPS, I seem to recall getting a tracking #, and checking where the package was. Perhaps I'm confusing the situation... Oh well
Quote from: "pentium"I would throw $300 at him right now but that would barely cover shipping.
You're not that far out of range to get a cube system. You're right that $300 would cover shipping for the entire collection. For a cube system only it's closer to $200. You're just a few of odd jobs away! It's summer time, everybody has projects they could use a hand with. Hell, play on peoples laziness and mow lawns for 40 bucks a pop. Money is literally everywhere. You won't even remember life without your cube...good luck.
^Yeah, I was thinking about $400 for the Cube system, shipped. You're not that far off. :D

Ok, are you done now? Perhaps if you read your own signature it might make you think more carefully...would you care to discuss how I came to my station in life? It didn't come over night. I've been in your shoes, jealousy is an ugly sin.
Yes, I am done. I only seem to have a problem that whenever I make money something big happens and I gotta pay to fix it.
QuoteYou're just a few of odd jobs away!
I'm spending six weeks of the summer on Cold Lake doing Survival Instructor training at $60/week.
When I return home I am thinking of becoming a dish washer. Foresters pays $8.50/hour and my friend says there are always open slots. :D
ah, cool! Hope you get enough cash up. I know what you mean about something coming up. It never fails, I'll have to cash, finally, to get something I've been trying to get my hands on for ages and something on my car goes... *sigh*
Okay, I'm getting a lot of offers on individual components. To try and make a bit more sense of it, I'm going to list what's been offered on what so far:
CD/HDD/Floppy: $200
Cube System: $400 (tentative, not confirmed)
NeXTstep 3.3 media: $100
There's also been interest in the Big Green CDs, but nothing solid as of yet.
I still haven't gotten any offers on the Turbo Color, but if I do I'll go ahead and part out!
Okay, as of now the following are sold:
Cube System
CD/HDD/Floppy
Peanuts Archive and Big Green CDs
The following are still available:
Turbo Color System
NeXTstep 3.3 Media (waiting to hear back from somebody)
NeXT Laser Printer
I'll throw in the awesome stickers with the Tubro Color, heh.
If anyone needs CDROMs that work with NeXT, I've got a NEC & a PLI (somewhere, I'd have to dig it out). Make me an offer.
