Hi, new member here.  Just bought me a used NextStation Turbo Color and it is just awesome! I've used Sun systems before for University and a job once but this is my first "home" unix system.  I've been a long time PC and apple ii/mac user as well.  Just wanted to say 'Hello' and introduce myself.

Hi thrax! Welcome to the boards :D

That's an awesome machine to have for a first NeXT! My first (and only fully working at the moment) was/is a NeXTstation Mono Turbo. Pretty sweet machines :)

My first NeXT was an ADB Turbo Color NeXTStation with printer and N4006 Trinitron.  In 1997, I paid $100 at a surplus dealer for it because the root password was set and the guy didn't have time or inclination to research it out.  I wish I had bought the other one that was on the shelf next to the one I purchased.  It was and still is an awesome machine.

Welcome to the fellowship of NeXT users and owners.

Welcome, Thrax.

Congrats on your first NeXT box.  I say "first" because as many will attest to on here, it's hard to stop at just one.

Anyway, be sure to let us know if you have any questions.  There's a great community of people here who almost always have the answers.

Welcome to the forums, and nice to see you enjoying your "new" NeXT machine.

As Ashman said, NeXT hardware is addictive, and just like the potato chip commercial says .. you cant just have one.

Thanks folks for making me feel at home.  You are right about me using the word "first" Ashman, I can easily see my self picking up more if the opportunity comes.  Of course I would have to "make space" for it as I still have most of the computers I've ever owned right down to my first Apple II plus from 1980!
I also took a look at Blackcube's webpage and after refreshing my memory with those photos of all those systems, it isn't going to make my resistance to picking up more any easier  :D

PS

I had a feeling I would like it here.  Look, there are already two BSG avatars in this thread.  I vividly remember the original show from the 70s!

The original BSG was the only good version! ;)

back to the topic...

I picked mine up about 3 years ago because it looked 'cool'.

I've since bought several accessories, ram upgrades, spare parts, a Cube that I recently sold and just got a NeXTstation Color :P

It's quite addictive...

Watch it man.... Them's fighting words   :D

Each series was great for its time, but that is a discussion for another forum.

My first NeXT system was a mono slab, but with no monitor, it was really hard too use.  Until I was able to get a color slab, running NS on a Sparc 5 helped tide me over.

Well, up until now I've had exactly one mono slab.

But with my acquisition of another N4000 monitor, another non-adb keyboard, and since I'm now manufacturing my own mice, I think I have enough parts to get another one up and running.

Fun and games!

Thanks a ton to helf whose friend Wil sent me the monitor for the cost of shipping.  The thing is almost pristine and the screen is a lot brighter than the original one I had.   Just scored the 2nd keyboard off flea-bay and it looks like it's never been used.  No dust, dirt, or anything and the NeXT badge is perfect!

I'm loving it!
