I just installed OPENSTEP 4.2 for the first time on a SparcStation 20 this very week.
I have successfully installed PDF-viewer, OmniWeb webbrowser and CubXWindow and everything seems to work fine. I had some (big) problems getting TCP/IP to work but a quick search of this forum led to a PDF-file that described the process and that has since worked fine.
Now... OmniWeb just doesn't cut it. Did it ever?
I tried launching Firefox from my Ubuntu machine but it dies with an error message about cairo(?) after a while.
What do people use to surf the web with on OPENSTEP?
Besides the TCP/IP snag it's been a pretty straightforward trip, some things I expected are not there (uname? ssh?) but I've since learned those are available.
Overall - a nice experience.

He said surf the web!
Well with your Sparc it will be alot more tolerable than on black hardware, that's for sure. Unfortunately, surfing the modern web is entirely too slow. Even these forums, which work well in omniweb BTW, are dog slow. Still pretty cool to do but not very productive use of time. I hope someone has a better answer for you.
I used elinks via my SDF shell account to surf :]
The CubXWindow keeps timing out (it is after all a demo, and I guess you can't buy it today no matter how much money you have), what do you use instead? Which X Server to use?

CubXWindows is free - check ftp://ftp.blackcube.org/pub/NeXT_Mirrors/NEXTSTEP/X11/server/CubX/
I had it running on a white NeXT at work - X11 to a Linux server - the linux had a Citrix client installed - The Citrix server provide Microsoft programs on my NeXT screen -

Thanks (to people who PMed me too) for the CuBX-registration! :)
