Hello.
I've been searching the web on some information about my 21" NeXT color display I got along with my "new" NeXTstation Turbo Color lately. I noticed, that there seem to be several models of that 21 " display that look different.
Mine was made 1992 by Hitachi:

The major differences to other models I've seen is the placement of the brightness and contrast regulators - they are on the right, not on the left and the display bears no NeXT-logo on the front:

It seems to be a display dedicated especially for ADB hardware as the label on the back says (note that "ADB" before the serial number):

But two things keep me thinking. First of all that little white knob beneath the controls:

What is this one used for? Never seen something like that one on other old displays. In fact this display has a fan inside! I didn't notice it until I powered down the station and still heard a humming noise... Obviously I can't take a picture of that one.
Now, is there a document somewhere with the specs of this display? And does anybody knows about this knob?
Thanks again!
J
I think that is for "degauss".
Degaussing is the process of decreasing or eliminating an unwanted magnetic field.
Many big monitros had cooling fan inside and degauss control.
What happens when you push the white button? If it starts making noise and distorting the picture for a few seconds, then it is indeed a degauss function as slomacuser said.
How about a wider angle pic of your NeXT setup you have there, as I see a mono system "peeking" there on the right.

I can't test the function of that one right now, because the ROM of the station isn't compatible with the ADB hardware - it isn't very funny watching that "network boot" all the time, but help is in sight.
Want to see some of my hardware? Hang on...

Enjoy!

Thanks for the link, and a nice collection you have there.
I had forgotten all about those digital cameras that Apple tried to sell. The 100 series "binocular" style ones are especially interesting, kinda resemble a laser rangefinder from a few years ago.

Yeah indeed, strange little boxes those QuickTakes. I've been making some pictures with them recently... The difference between the 100 & 150 towards the 200 are very big, the image quality (although not very good) is much better. It's still fun messing around with them, reminds me a bit of these Lomo-boxes style :)

Something else to add to the wish list .. a QuickTake 150 ..
like I need any more things on that list :D I will have to buy a bigger house :(

Nice collection Jenne!
Thanks da9000!
Maybe I'm going off-Apple a bit more some time :D

Heh, no worries, these days "platform wars" on vintage machines have died away... As long as it's vintage, it's a "unite all or die" situation :D
The only wars left are Windoze vs the rest (Linux and Mac OS X), and it's not looking so good for our side... But what goes around, comes around, so I'm hopeful one day the evil "empire" will crumble and die. (note the quotes are not on evil)
But hey, don't stop collecting Mac stuff! I might have some interesting pieces for sale at some point :D

Nothing fancy. I've just been experimenting with Copland a bit, tried to install it, that strange debugging connection to make first steps. In fact it's been a very unstable version so I will be glad if I can take some screenshots of it without kicking the system into a complete blackout...

WOW! I must confess complete ignorance at the sight of this many clones! I had no idea there were so many Apple II* clones! Why the f$?@ did I not see one until this day? Not that the original Apple looked bad or anything :)
WOW. Crazy... I bet the Woz must be feeling really good when he sees a sight like this, with so many copies of his work!

Is this a leaked copy? Where did you guys get it? What system, if any, does it run on?
Cheers
