Hi,
after playing around with NS3.3 for a while, I found that some software packages have been dropped from the previous releases, e.g.
Mathematica
Sybase DB server
Literature (Shakespeare etc.)
What else is missing? Is there any other way of picking this up except from looking for these old installation CDs?

Sybase is part of NeXTSTEP 3.3 Developer. As for the others, Mathematica was only included with
machines sold to higher education, and I don't know what happened to the complete works of Shakespeare (well, not
quite complete, as it doesn't include "Love's Labour's Won", but that play is gone anyway).

EDIT: I checked, it seems that only the Sybase
library is included with NeXTSTEP 3.3 Developer.

Sybase limited server comes separately. The version I have is on two floppies. Mathematica was available on all systems. Those who bought from Businessland got it. I've kept mine up to date and migrated it to Linux but I still have the 1990 license number. (Distribution size has changed a bit. The first update on media I received came on four floppies. It takes a bit more space these days.) Another was Alegro Common Lisp. Updates are also available on floppies.
Hi,
thanks for breathing life into this thread again...
I would still like to get hold of those "ancient" tools, especially Mathematica.
But it seems to be really hard to get hold of these today.
Nonetheless I appreciate your replies!
Well, according to this (
http://www.cilinder.be/docs/next/NeXTStep/3.3/nd/ReleaseNotes/DBKit.htmld/index.html) (scroll down to the second "Sybase client library incompatibility"), Sybase 4.0 was bundled
only with NeXTSTEP Release 3.0 (so no white box there). So, if you have a black box and a 3.0 CD lying around, you can get it running that way, although Sybase 4.1 was later available on 2 floppies.

EDIT: Fixed weird BBCode glitch.
I guessed that Sybase was only bundled with earlier releases.
I think I will have to try one of the other alternative DBs. But hey, perhaps I will even try to set up a DB server on a different OS (Linux) and have NS connect to that.
