I've been mulling the idea of building a slab-alike with new hardware expressly for running OPENSTEP. I toyed with the idea of actually using a slab case, but it seems to me this would require lots of mods, and I don't really want to gut a working slab. If I had a non-working one it would be a different story though.
Does anyone know of any mini-ITX cases that look slab-ish, or could be modified thus?
More updates to come as I monkey with this (and find out if my mono slab is alive or dead).
Maybe:
1) find a dead slab and retrofit a board in it: maybe an embedded motherboard or a Sun motherboard, although not sure which would fit... There are some PC motherboards with horizontal PCI slots, which might fit in the case, but not sure if they'll run NS/OS to begin with :)
or
2) get a slab-like Sun machine and use that as the case? (in which case you either gut the Sun or find a non-working one, rare as that might be)
Not mini-ITX but somehow stylish, too (if grey can be stylish anyway):

Because there are two of them I wouldn't care toomuch about "modding" one of them while keeping the other for nostalgia ;-)
Maybe I'm going to get me those...

Well, it would run NS 3.3, at any rate (though AFAIK OS 4.2 is NIS only).
Though, that gives me an idea - maybe I should paint one of my HP 712s black, then modify the other one. Or, obtain something like a SPARCstation 4/5 and mod that. After all, SS4s aren't exactly rare, nor are they particularly useful boxes.

Is it? Sorry, didn't know about this. Again learned something...
