Hi!
Another problem with JetDirect: Every document is printed fine but it is followed by a blank piece of paper with a diamond symbol in the upper left corner. This is printed on every print job from every program. If I print two copies of a document I get: the printed document, an empty page with a diamond symbol in the upper left corner, the printed document, a page with a diamond symbol in the upper left corner again. So I need twice as much paper as needed!
I have this problem for a long time but as I didn't print that much it was not urgent to find this problem. But as my Laser Printer is not printing anymore it would be nice to find a solution for this!
Sorry, program is Jet Pilot, of course!
It's really an interesting problem.
I installed Jet Pilot on another NeXTstation Turbo. This time a Mono station. First I updated NeXTstep to 3.3 (from 3.1) then I installed Jet Pilot.
As I have another HP Laserjet 5 (this time an 5M with Postscript module) I connected it via Ethernet and configured the driver as usual.
I still get one ore two more empty prints when printing a document! On this installation I get two empty sheets of paper BEFORE it is printing the document! Preview shows only one page.
On the other installation I get one (almost) empty page AFTER it has printed the document (as I wrote last time: an empty page with a small diamond char on the upper left side).
Can somebody help? As this happens on two different machines with two different printers there must something be wrong!?
I found something out - it seems a common problem!
Start NetInfoManager and go to printers/HPLaserjet5/Device and remove the values for "Setup" and "Exit" (or remove the keys at all). This seems to help but if the document uses a very thin margin, the last one or two lines may be missing. But it's a start. Maybe other value for Setup and Exit would help?
nice monolog ... :D

There's some info concerning the problem on the JetPilot support page. They mention a few things that might solve the problem. I haven't used JetPilot so I can't test it, but let us know if it fixes the issue.
http://www.interpc.de/IPC/next_stuff/jetpilot/jetpilot_support.htmlEDIT: I just noticed that the support page says to remove the "Setup" and "Exit" values twice if it doesn't work the first time. Another thing you might try is a different printer driver to see what effect that has.
I have this information from the IPC homepage.
It's interesting that on my second NeXTstation the HP Laserjet prints an empty sheet, the document and then an empty sheet again. The FAQ mentions only one extra sheet after the document has been printed.
If I remove the values for SETUP and EXIT (or if I remove the keys completely) theses separate empty sheets are not printed anymore but the last one or two lines of the document are not printed at all. So I have to choose what's better: more paper and a complete document or less paper with missing lines... :(
I tried several drivers but all with the same result.
I'll continue posting new information.
I think it's a problem with the bottom margin. It's always 1 cm no matter whether I set the margin to 0 or 0.5. If the keys SETUP and EXIT are left alone more paper is wasted on every print job but the margins are as set.
Really odd situation.
