Hi everyone,

I'm looking to purchase a couple of Slabs.  The ones I'm looking for are 25Mhz Turbo Color and Mono Slabs.  The ones I'm after have a 25Mhz 68040 and the Turbo chipset (four main memory slots).  Slab only is fine, I don't need the peripherals. Please PM me with details and price.

Thanks,

Is this link the sort of system you are looking for?

http://www.savarese.org/nextsale.html

Seems to be still available, according to the page.

Those appear to be 25Mhz non-turbo's.  Andreas has a picture of one of the stations I'm looking for in this thread:

http://www.nextcomputers.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=3902&highlight=#3902

It's the second picture, showing a 25Mhz CPU with version 74 ROM and four main memory slots (Turbo chipset).  They were manufactured near the end of NeXT's hardware production.

Here's a picture of a 25Mhz Mono Turbo Slab.  I'm looking for one like this plus a similar Colorstation.

Are the boards just using a 25mhz cpu running at 33mhz or is it actually clocked at 25mhz? I popped a 25mhz cpu in my mono turbo and it ran it at 33...

Aren't all Turbo @ 33 Mhz?
I think only the non-Turbo are the ones @ 25 Mhz.

As far as I know all Turbo stations have 4 memory slots.

gaspar, apparently they released some nextstations with a turbo capable chipset running at 25mhz.

I remember! Yes I read about it years ago.. that was a marketing move that didn't work (but some people believed it was a way to burn some processors still in contract with Motorola). Probably rumors only...
But how were they labeled on the outside Station o TurboStation?
Anyway. Good luck!

My understanding is that they're running at 25Mhz, but the chips are 33Mhz-capable. This also means that it's probably an easy solder job to move around some resistors or wires and configure it for 33Mhz operation. Not sure. Nitro maybe knows? ( perhaps he's planning of overclocking the 25Mhz to 33Mhz? hehehe :) )

The CPUs run at 25Mhz, but these boards have the advantages of the Turbo chipset.  My main interest in obtaining these is to benchmark them against the 25Mhz non-turbos, which would compare memory and SCSI throughput between the two chipsets.

I guess I could replace the 25Mhz 68040 with one rated at 40Mhz, thereby underclocking it to 25Mhz. :)

I think it might be possible to push it back to 33Mhz via resistor settings, but haven't really looked much into this. But yeah, definitely should do all the desoldering work so that a 40Mhz '040 can be put in there so it will run "cooler" at 25Mhz *grin*

I found a 25Mhz Mono Turbo on Ebay but I'm still looking for a 25Mhz Turbo Color Slab.  A bare Slab or a complete system is ok.

To the forum member that contacted me about the Mono Slab and monitor, I'm still interested in purchasing those if they're available.  I sent two private messages but didn't get a response.  Please disregard this if they're no longer for sale.

Thanks

I'm still on the lookout for a 25Mhz Turbo Color Slab.  Will trade for a 25Mhz 030 or 040 Cube or purchase outright.

Thanks,

Probably I have one. I have to check, but when i gotten it the previous owner, a member of this forum, was sure that is was a 25Mhz Turbo color.
I will try to check but it will takes some times.

25 mhz is not a turbo

Well, you're kinda right.

All stations marked with "Turbo" on the outside case were 33mhz using the "Turbo" chipset inside, and were ADB capable.  However, the later 25mhz stations (not marked "Turbo" on the outside) also used the same "Turbo" chipset, and were similarly capable of using ADB monitor/peripherals and taking up to 128MB RAM.

they might have had the features of the "turbo" but they still were not turbos

i had quite a few of these and just sold them as 25 MHz stations

I appreciate that, thank you. :)

That's correct.  I took the easy way out calling it a Turbo rather than opting for the long story.  Technically these are non-Turbo machines with the Turbo chipset.  NeXT blurred the line between Turbo and non-Turbo Slabs when they switched from the original non-Turbo motherboards.  However, since I'm looking to purchase one rather than sell one, I'm ok with my semantics being a bit off.

Sorry, i don't think I have a 25 Mh color Station with turbo chipset.

I have this
http%3A%2F%2Ffarm4.static.flickr.com%2F3112%2F2311612015_1561cf1830_b.jpg

and also I have this

but none of them have the four megs slot or the V74 ROM chip. So probably none of them is what you are looking for.

You see it also on the 4 PS/2 memory slots wich can drive up to 32 MB per RAM on turbo chipsets instead the 8 PS/2 memory slots for a max of 32MB (8x 4MB)

I have a 040 slab, will post photos, how can you tell the differencebetween the two?

Still looking for a 25Mhz Color Slab with the turbo chipset.  The serial number should be ABB0028000 or higher.
