Hello,
I am having a boot issue with my TurboColor slab that
appears to be ROM related.
When I attempt to boot, I just get a black screen on the display. This occurred after a power outage - it worked fine prior to that.
The current ROM is Rev. 3.3 V74-ADB.
I swapped in a different motherboard with ROM, Rev. 3.1 V71 and the system booted right up - but without ADB support, so not very useful. I then tried swapping the V71 ROM into my original motherboard, and it too booted right up. Finally, I tried the new motherboard with the V74 ROM and it failed (black screen).
Following along with this thread, I assumed I needed to burn a new ROM. I loaded my current EPROM into my reader and compared it to the downloaded Rev_3.3_v74.BIN file linked to in an above post. Out of curiosity, I did a binary compare to my saved image, and they were identical.
I verified the checksum as well, and it is correct:
In the above image, from left to right are the downloaded ROM, my saved ROM (with checksum) and the reader dump.
So, why does my slab not boot with this ROM?
And I am confused about the need to change the MAC address, why is that necessary, and is the fact that my ROM is unchanged from the downloaded bin file the reason it suddenly stopped working - although I do not see why that would be the case.
Also, as the reader can read the EPROM just fine, doesn't that suggest the EPROM is ok?
Any assistance to resolving this issue will be greatly appreciated!
Regards,
-k
ETA: I am posting this from Windows; when I attempt to login from my Mac, I get the message, "Hello Guest, you have been banned!" Why?
You do not need to change the MAC address. This is only necessary if you want multiple machines networked. You should be able to directly use the stock ROM provided in the downloads here. As for why it works in the reader but not the next, I have no explanation.
For a possible solution to the connection problem please see this thread.
https://www.nextcomputers.org/forums/index.php?topic=5464If that doesn't help then you can start a new thread in the Site News forum or send me a PM and I can help you directly. It's frustrating that the SMF forum software tells users they are banned simply because of their browser security/privacy settings.
I am going to try patching my ROM with the sync fix described in the thread Nitro linked.
Thanks for the quick responses all...
