does anybody remember this game and has some background information on it?
What would you like to know that isn't already answered by that page or the actual game disk?
https://fsck.technology/software/NeXT/NeXTSTEP%20Applications/Ragnaroek%20NeXTSTEP/The files are dated January 3, 1992, so it's for black hardware only. It is version 1.0a, evidently the second release.
Players are selected by dragging and dropping. You can make two AIs fight each other.
The game is not only in color, but also
fully voiced—"Capture by White!" and "Capture by Black!" play whenever a capture is made. Also? Every
other move is accompanied by goofy sound effects made by David S. Joerg. Using his mouth. (There is an option to switch to a female voice. Possibly David J.'s wife?)
If the black player wins, and Loki escapes, the token for Loki breaks out of the window and whizzes around the screen laughing. Highly recommended for this alone.
I'm a little sad it doesn't seem to have a MAB version, but it definitely puts CultureShock to shame in terms of 1991 NeXT game releases.
